OBJECTIVE

To offer a high quality of engineering design within different industries, and to gain a good knowledge of varied and interesting products.


SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE

 

Aug 1999 – Sept 2005:

Contract Design Engineer.

 

  • (Dec 04 – Present) Working at On Track Design Solutions, to design a new laser measurement system on Mersyrail vehicles for Serco Railtest, the design included mounting brackets & housings for various computer equipment & Lasers, inside and outside the train. Other work Included a new Diesel & Water Tank for a Rail Grinding Vehicle.
  • (July 03 – Dec 04) Working at Interfleet Technology, to aid in the design a new measurement train for Network Rail, other work included the design & detail of  New Wagons to support Concrete Sleepers for Balfour Beatty, Redesign of skirt panels on MK3 Carraiges, Design & Detail of New Conference Vehicle for EWS Trains which included the design of on-board bedrooms & shower rooms.  Design of New Emergency & Medical Pods for a UNIMOG vehicle in the Severn Trent Tunnel for Network Rail.
  • (Feb 03 – July 03) Working at Atkins Rail, to design a new interior for Bombarbier on Virgin MK3 Coaches, which included new Toilet Installation, draughtscreens, new ceiling panels, vestibule headers and panels etc.
  • (Nov 00 – Feb 03) Working at TWR Rail, to design a new interior for Alstom on Juniper 5 trains, which included new draughtscreens, new ceiling panels and support structure, vestibule headers and panels etc. work after that included modifying and improving existing toilet modules for virgin trains. Finally at present my work includes a new concept design for new standard and disabled toilet modules.
  • (June 00 - Nov 00) Working at INBIS for Bombardier working on a servery for virgin trains, the work mainly involved modifying and improving an existing design.
  • (Feb 00 - June 00) Working at Walter Alexander, the work was a follow on from the Mayflower contract.
  • (Aug 99 - Feb 00) Working at Mayflower Vehicle Systems on single and double-decker buses for public transport. Work involved design on chassis, structure, fibreglass GRP mouldings, glazing, interior panels, exterior panels and seating.

 

June 1998 - Aug 1999:

Design Engineer.

 

  • Employed at Hussmann (Europe) Ltd, designing refrigeration cabinets for use at all major supermarket chains. 4 different cabinets designed during my time there, all mass-produced on a production line which I gave product support for. Work also included developing designed parts into flat patterns and programming punch and laser machines for production.

 

June 1997 - June 1998:

Design Engineer.

 

  • Employed at Parker Plant Ltd, designing asphalt and crushing machinery, most of the designs were bespoke, which including hoppers, chutes, conveyors, structural steelwork, and chassis. Most parts included moving mechanical parts.

 

May 1994 - June 1997:

Technical Planner / Programmer.

 

  • Employed at Parker Plant Ltd, work involved breaking down engineering drawings into detailed material lists and B.O.M. and developing complex flat patterns and programming plasma/flame cut machines for production. To assist with fabrication queries to aid production.

 

Sept 1988 - May 1994:

Fully Skilled Fabricator.

 

  • Employed at Parker Plant Ltd, started as a craft apprentice on a 4-year apprenticeship, continued on for 2 more years before moving on into a technical role. Work involved producing good quality platework and structural steelwork from engineering drawings to a specified accuracy and of quality workmanship.

Skills & Certificates:

  • Cad experience Includes Solid Edge (4,500 hrs), Radan (3,000hrs), AutoCAD (1000hrs), HP ME10 (500hrs), Pro-ENG (20hrs), Catia (20 hrs).
  • Fully conversant with Windows, Word, Excel etc.
  • BTEC Ordinary National Certificate. (Fabrication/Mechanical Engineering)
  • City & Guilds 229 part 2 & 3 in Fabrication & Welding.
  • NVQ Level 3 City & Guilds in Engineering Manufacture, Welding & Fabrication.
  • AutoCAD City & Guilds Levels 1 & 2.
